HARDY X KELLY GALLOUP

New Averon Streamer Reel

The Averon is the first reel crafted for streamer fishing—engineered for instant line control, smooth performance, and total confidence when it counts.

The First Reel Built for Streamers

Streamer fishing has long had specialised rods, lines, and flies, yet reels have been largely ignored. The new Hardy Averon Streamer, developed with Kelly Galloup, is the first fly reel designed specifically for streamer fishing.

At its heart is a free-spinning incoming retrieve that allows anglers to recover slack line rapidly with a quick slap of the spool. Paired with a large arbor, narrow spool, and a suite of purpose-driven details, the Averon Streamer was built to bring greater control, cleaner line management, and more confidence to one of fly fishing’s most demanding styles.

Crafted for Streamer Fishing

Streamer anglers use a reel differently. Loose line gathers at your feet in the boat. Fly changes need to happen quickly. And when THE fish you are hunting finally commits, the reel needs to help bring order to the moment, not add to the chaos.

The Averon Streamer was conceived around those realities. It is not a general-purpose reel that can handle streamers. It is specifically optimised for the way streamer anglers actually fish.

Rapid Line Pickup

At the heart of the Averon Streamer is its defining feature: a free-spinning incoming retrieve. With a quick slap of the spool, loose line can be recovered rapidly without the need to crank.

That means faster line pickup when loose line builds at your feet, a quicker path to getting a fish onto the reel, and more efficient retrieves for fast fly changes. It is a feature born directly from the practical demands of streamer fishing, and one that has a profound effect on how a reel performs in that setting.

Shaped for Streamers

The dimensions of the Averon Streamer were chosen with equal intent. The extra-large arbor increases retrieval rate and helps reduce line coils and memory, while the narrow spool helps minimise line stacking issues and supports cleaner, more consistent line lay. In streamer fishing, where effective line management is central to staying organised, efficient, and ready when the moment comes, those details matter.
That same sense of purpose extends throughout the design. Material and mass are carefully distributed to support free-spooling performance, strength, and durability, resulting in a reel that remains light enough for long days of casting, yet strong enough for the demands of streamer fishing.

Refined in Every Detail

Every remaining detail of the Averon Streamer reflects the same focused thinking. The larger handle is easy to find and grip in a hurry, while remaining compact enough to avoid catching line or clothing when it matters most. The drag is smooth, strong, and dependable when a fish surges. Silent on the incoming retrieve and loud on the outgoing, it gives both angler and guide clear feedback when line is moving. Finished in a durable bead-blasted matte black anodisation, it is a reel refined in every detail.

“Nobody has ever built a reel specifically for streamer fishing. For years the industry has said “just use whatever reel you’ve got”, which you can; but when you’re hunting the fish, I want a reel that does exactly what I need it to. That’s why we built this.”
